vintage feathers

I admit it, when I first found this link I kind of wanted to keep it to myself. The Walters family ebay shop Vintage Feathers and More is so much fun that I want to buy one of everything. I limited myself to two items (wait – now three) which I’ll try to turn into some kind of wedding hair accessory, but maybe down the road I can buy a bunch of things to play with. Oh, the possibilities! Don’t you just want to open up a little etsy shop where you sell cute things made with French millinery feathers from the early 1900s?! Yeah!

Not only is Andrew Bird’s Useless Creatures a wonderful CD, but the illustration for Noble Beast/Useless Creatures is fantastic. Diana Sudyka was the illustrator and Chad Kloepfer was the designer on the project. If you haven’t had a chance to see Andrew Bird in concert, I definitely recommend that as well. I saw him last year and it was so moving – not to mention very impressive. I had no idea until the show that he does most of his music himself, for example playing on the guitar, recording it with pedals, then playing over that with a violin, whistling and singing on top of that combination, to create something really rich (and did I say moving?)

That’s Andrew Bird of course, and below is more of Diana Sudyka’s illustration:

diy hair accessories

plastic flowers

I mentioned that I’ve been thinking about hair accessories for my wedding reception, and although I love the fabric flowers that are so popular these days (à la twigs & honey and muscari), I think I’m looking for something a little different. I can’t quite put my finger on what I’m looking for, is the problem.

But anyway, in brainstorming I found a bunch of inexpensive vintage brooches, flowers, etc. on etsy that got me thinking; any of these could be wired to a barrette or comb, or attached to a headband. Here’s a tutorial for making fascinators (you know, the hair flowers), which I found via style me pretty.

cassie\'s attic

I’m wearing a family veil for our wedding ceremony, but since it’s very old I’m considering something else for the reception. I ran across these headpieces from Cassie’s Attic the other night, and although I’m not sure I’m a birdcage-wearing gal I think these are so adorable. Maybe the birdcage deserves a second thought – especially that one in the lower right!

new dress

eva franco

Isn’t it the best when your mom comes to visit? Mine came to visit me recently so we could do some mother-of-the-bride shopping in the “big city” (ha.) and to top it all off she bought me this great Eva Franco dress. At 50% off it was some kind of deal. Yay Mom!

But speaking of Eva Franco, she just launched her Spring line and here are some of my favorites:

And type nerd that I am, I like the way they treated these on Eva’s site:
