hooray!

March 31st, 2009 · 17 Comments

Today we’re finally moving and I’m bounce-off-the-walls excited. This is a photo of our new living room (except we don’t have a cute couch or rug…yet)

I don’t have any additional posts for today, but if you’re dying for something wonderful to look at, check out my cute birthday present from ali!

heidi & jose & threefold

I was so happy to hear from Heidi Rodriguez (previously blogged here) because I knew whatever she had to share was going to be good! Heidi and her husband Jose have been up to some very cool stuff, like these so-clever postcards. They now have an etsy shop called Threefold where you can pick these up, in addition to a beautiful blog called Reason With Me where you can see photos of their process.

They also take great photos:

Thanks Heidi!

redress raleigh

A couple of my friends recently participated in the Redress Raleigh event on March 14, which was a fashion show featuring local designers who use repurposed vintage clothes in their designs. Many were students from North Carolina State University. I didn’t get to go to the show, so I was really excited to run across these photos for the Independent Weekly by Jeremy M. Lange. That’s my beautiful friend Anjuli Munjal above, wearing a dress from the Revamp collection by Jamie Powell.

Right photo: tie skirt from Morgan Meredith’s Redress Raleigh collection

this week’s favorite three

March 29th, 2009 · 6 Comments

Yes, one of the blogs of the week is OK Great, which you probably know I contribute to through my job. But this is not a cop out, just listen. Last week we redesigned OK Great and added this great feature which I’m so excited about: We now have a 1-800 number where you can call and let us know what you think about the blog, what you think in general, tell us something funny, sing us something nice, whatever. Call 866-556-9432 and sometime soon we’ll start posting our favorite messages on the blog for all to hear. So far we’ve gotten some really funny messages and I love how this personalizes our often anonymous readers.

I also picked Toujours Dimanche, which is a relatively new favorite with lots of pretty pictures. It is written by Marie-Eve from Quebec, and she is opening a bakery and cafe in May.

Lastly and not leastly I picked The Best Part for Jason Dean’s ability to find many cool things, many times per day. (How does he do it?!)

You can see these blogs’ banners in the right-hand sidebar this week, and can visit past favorites in the archives.

from elsewhere…

March 27th, 2009 · 13 Comments

Bridal shower to birthday to house guests (yay!) to wedding planning to moving… Could things get any more hectic? Really? Mint has felt a little neglected this week. However, I always seem to find time to read my very favorite blogs (eesh), and updating Mint’s tumblr account with my finds is a cinch. Here are some favorites, from elsewhere:

valerie roybal via pitch design union

I try to limit my magazine subscriptions (psst… you can read them for free at barnes & noble!) but now that domino is gone (and clearly, I am part of the problem) I suppose I need a replacement… Special deal for Modish readers

One of my favorite bookbinders, Erinzam, has been making these bingo books (here and here). This week she has a how-to for making pocket envelopes

100 Layer Cake shows how to make soap and I love the way they’re packaged. Is it too early to start making Christmas presents? …..Oh who am I kidding.

Helen Palmer’s house on Design Sponge is so beautiful. Light filled and attainable design (think flea markets!)… mmm. Maybe I can still talk Brendan into letting me keep my wrought iron headboard. Lots of extra photos to enjoy at the bottom of the post.

Sanaa houses on Shift.

morelle bags via unruly things

Paper sampler – sold out but still inspiring – by lovely design via parcel post

Lastly, what design & marketing genius talked General Mills into going retro with their packaging? I’m going to be a purely General Mills girl once these hit the shelves. Finally, something interesting to look at while I eat my breakfast. Via OK Great. [photo by Richard Roche]

Hope you all have wonderful weekends!

and thanks for reading Mint  : )

Mark Weaver emailed me his portfolio yesterday, and I loved what I saw! He’s a talented illustrator, designer, and photographer who worked on the redesign of Paste magazine (previously blogged about here). Mark has a couple prints for sale in his etsy shop, and has a flickr page too.

This set of wedding photographs might be my favorite yet. Although a few shots by Poser:Image were too photoshopy for my taste, I love the documentary-style, the colors, the great backdrops. Both the wedding and the bridal portrait (not to mention the bride) – Beautiful!

Photography by Poser:Image…see more on their blog.
