Bugs from what looks like sticks and lace? Brilliant, delicate, beautiful. (Not to mention how nice the phrase “sticks and lace” is!)

cutomizing cheap roman shades

March 19th, 2009 · 6 Comments

Last week I mentioned that I’m about to move into a new house, and ever since we signed the lease I’ve had my eyes peeled for ways we might spruce things up without breaking our non-existent budget. I’m a big fan of taking inexpensive, pre-made items and customizing them (you might remember my scrap-pile-embellished Target curtains from a while back).

Apartment Therapy has the same idea – with step by step instructions on how to turn an inexpensive roman shade from Target into something more unique and totally un-Target like.

This one’s going in the new-house files!

quickie giveaway!

March 18th, 2009 · 73 Comments

Laura from Prismera kindly sent these beautiful postcards in for the birthday giveaway, but I asked a little too late and they didn’t arrive in time (my bad). But, I think it turned out for the best! This is a set of 6 postcards, beautifully printed with metallic ink on recycled paper.

I’ll admit it, it’s kind of hard to give these away : )

Leave a comment with your name & don’t forget to include your email in the comment form. This giveaway will close Sunday at midnight (eastern time) and I’ll announce the winner on Monday. Good luck!!

If you’re not the lucky winner, you can pick up a set of these cards from the Prismera online shop.

HOW in june

March 18th, 2009 · 2 Comments

I’m so excited to receive every issue of HOW magazine, but June sounds especially awesome:

“Art director Bridgid McCarren, senior editor Megan Patrick and photographer Al Parrish teamed up to create three original [DIY] projects and document their process. The projects involved different hand-printing processes: screen printing, stenciling and block printing. You’ll get a step-by-step photo tutorial and materials list for each technique, so you can print your own personal projects or inject a bit of handcraft into your client work.”

yeah HOW!
