gardenhouse (june issue of HOW)

April 15, 2009

I already said that I was excited for the June issue of HOW. But it wasn’t the tutorials on DIY printing that inspired me the most – it was a feature on the work of Cheryl Maeder Antonio, an artist who transforms vintage furniture into beautiful outdoor showpieces and sells them at Gardenhouse.

Our new little house has a back deck, and although we have no budget for furnishing it, I’m newly inspired to hit up the Raleigh flea market and buy a few cans of spray paint.

Now how could I hang a chandelier back there….

And I do recommend picking up the issue, check out these spreads:

OMG. I am in love with all of those beautiful pieces and I want to transform our back patio with tons of mixed pieces like that in bright colors. I just bought some ugly furniture from B,B&B that I am hoping I can paint.

Also, at some point in my life I absolutely have to have one of those retro metal bench swings. They make my heart smile.

    Hi Ellie ~
Oh my ~ aren’t those pieces brilliant? It really makes one itchy to get the paint out and go crazy with it! As the spring days warm, there is a definite strong pull to freshen up the old patio furniture … or to dig some pieces out of the back of my shop and give them a second life!
Thanks so much for sharing ~
