big crowd? just get a bigger pot!

Early in our wedding planning, the idea of having a low country boil came up. If we had done it, these invitations by Bird and Banner (bib included!) would have been just the thing:

happy weekend!

April 9th, 2009 · 6 Comments

I’ll be taking tomorrow off, and I hope you all have wonderful weekends. These eggs were made by Mihaiela, who has some brief instructions, and you can find full instructions for making red ones here and blue ones here. But it doesn’t sound easy!

*UPDATE: Please see Amanda’s comment for simpler instructions!

sponsor intros

April 9th, 2009 · No Comments

I’m happy to announce some new Mint sponsors!

ADC Young Guns is an international, cross-disciplinary, portfolio-based awards competition for creatives aged 30 and under who have worked at least two years, either full time or freelance. The call for entries opened March 19, 2009, with an early bird deadline of April 15 (save $25 on entry fee) and final deadline of May 13, 2009. Even if you aren’t entering the contest, the Young Guns website is a great place to find cool work from past winners.

………………

Bayan Hippo (previously blogged about here) is a beautiful etsy shop with handmade goods “for you and your kids.” I still have my eye on that striped bag.

………………

Two Brunettes is a great, new etsy shop (previously a blog of the week) started by best friends Carolynn Giordano and Nell Beadling. The duo makes beautiful custom and pre-made greeting cards, invitations, and announcements. Isn’t their logo adorable?

………………

Vespertine is a shop in Pittsboro, NC with an online etsy shop, too. Ginna makes everything from buttons to notecards to jewelry, and anything else she thinks of!

Sponsors, thank you for your support! If you are interested in becoming a sponsor on Mint, please email me for more information:

pew cards

April 9th, 2009 · 15 Comments

Well I hope you all don’t mind lots of wedding-themed posts! With nearly two weeks until our wedding, it’s all I can wrap my mind around.

Yesterday (inspired by those silhouettes I posted the other day), I came up with these for our pew cards. Our wedding is on the large side, in a church, and we’re reserving some rows for our immediate families up front. To make the usher’s jobs a little easier, I thought I’d give those with reserved seats a pew card to show to the usher.

But most importantly, they were fun to make.

I think I need a little practice cutting out circles, but otherwise I love them. I drew the silhouettes by tracing over back-lit photos in Adobe Illustrator, then I printed the design on vellum and glued it to cardstock craft paper.

You can see a few more, larger images on Mint’s flickr page.

*UPDATE: You can buy an adjustable circle cutter from Making Memories. Thanks Penny!

Keetra Dean Dixon’s work made the blog rounds a couple months ago, but I ran across it again and thought it was worth another look. Actually, I’ve had this on my desktop for ages because I just love the type and ornaments so much:

These are from a collaborative project with JK Keller, and they are made of layered wax:

All beautiful, and lots more in her portfolio.
