a wedding at the barn at valhalla

August 21st, 2009 · 8 Comments

Last weekend we went to a beautiful wedding in Chapel Hill, NC at the Barn at Valhalla. The ceremony was outside, facing a lake, and afterward we moved over to the barn for dinner and dancing.

Even though there was a threat of rain all day, the sky cleared up for our friends and as you can see from the photos, the light was gorgeous! I loved the wildflower-like arrangements, the strings of lights, casual atmosphere, and beyond-happy couple.

The groomsmen wore grey suits and sambas, and the bridesmaids wore plum dresses. The bride wore a beautiful, strapless lace sheath. I loved the vine archway they were married under!

The groom started brewing beer for the occasion six months prior, and I can say with all honesty that it was the best beer I’ve ever had! Not to mention a sweet personal touch to the reception.

Can’t go wrong with strings of lights!

It was the kind of wedding that reminds you that sometimes simple is best. Beautiful location, a few personal touches, casual flowers… perfect!

Congratulations, A+F!

  4. I love the simplicity. It’s good to be reminded that all you need to have a successful wedding – or even just a party – is good company and a few lovely, personal touches. Love the idea of a barn reception, too :)

  5. Love the flowers. Summery-sweet :P

  6. These are lovely… And the groom? Wearing sneakers? Pretty sweet.

  8. My daughter is getting married there next summer! Any suggestions for a DJ, wedding photographer, wedding planner, also on a budget. PS Love love your lovely wedding, that’s what my daughter and future son in law want.
