designing with a six year old
Over the past couple of years, I’ve developed this fear of paint. I don’t know what happened, but I went from painting (and loving) my college bedroom a bold yellow-green, to a fear of anything but white walls. Our current house has beige walls, and even that has taken some getting used to. So, I’m intrigued by rooms like Kim Ludy’s son’s room, where a bold, dark color is used and… I love it.
Kim recently finished her six year old son’s room, and shared it on her tumblr blog and flickr. Head there to see more photos & read about the project!

you should definitely get back into your painting mode! i’m sure you’d love it once you put some color up on the walls.

August 11, 2009 at 10:03 amGreat color and I know what you mean about paint. Even though they say it is temporary…I normally don’t want to paint over and over again!

we loved doing the project. and as i say in the commentary, it was a major big step for me to use dark colors on the wall. had no choice though..it is e’s favorite, and it’s HIS room after all.

August 11, 2009 at 3:13 pmThat is one of my favorite colors but I have never considered painting with it. I tend to go for muted or even pastel wall colors. I’ll have to consider this for a chest of drawers to go up against my gray/blue wall though. Gorgeous.

August 11, 2009 at 3:28 pmI completely feel you about the white walls…I feel like all my accessories and decor are changing so often that committing to one color scheme is too hard. But I’m kind of itching to paint some stripes…

August 12, 2009 at 8:48 amIt is a fabulous room! The colour makes it instantly so arresting and strong… quite a feat when there’s a patchwork quilt on the bed! Thanks for this – great post :) K

August 12, 2009 at 1:47 pmI think the bold color is so perfect in the nook. I am with you, I have developed a fear of color on walls, and a love for white paint. I blame it on renting for the past 4+ years.

August 16, 2009 at 5:40 pmThe color combos are stunning. Would’ve never dared painting a room such a dark color, but it all works so well.
