in my mailbox
Yesterday two frankie books were in my mailbox, courtesy of the nice folks at frankie. I knew these books would be beautiful, but really… I mean, they made my day. Afternoon Tea is a beautifully designed cookbook with vintage-styled photographs. Seriously, the photos are frame-worthy, and I’m as drawn to the vintage patterns in each photo as I am to the delicious recipes.
The second book that arrived is The Photo Album, which features the work of over 100 professional and amateur photographers. The collection is charming, funny, and beautiful all at once.
So, what’s frankie? I hadn’t heard of it before, probably because the magazine is based in Australia and I’m way over here in the U.S… sad & out of the loop. Still, the women’s lifestyle magazine is available as a real-life paper subscription or as a digital subscription no matter where you live.
image credits: except for the bottom photograph, these were taken by me. The first image shows a cover photo by Jasmine Rubio. The second image shows a photograph from afternoon tea by Cath Conroy & Mindi Cooke, styled by Mark Core. The third image shows photographs by Fleur Audet and Olive Parsons. The fourth image shows photographs by Lani Dafter and Sarah Jessica Marie Burns. The last image is by Laina Breidis.
Thanks frankie!

October 6, 2009 at 2:14 pmoh my, that cookbook looks cool. I was enchanted by a cookbook my grandmother gave my dad (a great cook) that was published in the 60′s and it was HUGE. And so dated. Aspics, fish mouses, organ meats: I was in love with the weirdness of it, and the “surface of the sun” exposure and saturation of the photos. Plus the place settings were cr-aaazy. I’m betting someone else, at frankie, had a similar experience. :)
