the big vintage/handmade ornament round-up
Who doesn’t have a soft spot for ornaments? Unlike other home decor, ornaments usually have a story or come attached with sentimental memories. My family has ornaments my grandmother made, ornaments my brother and I made, ornaments that my parents got when they were kids, and then there are those that came as Christmas gifts from friends and family. I’m always amazed at people’s ability to point to ornaments on their tree and give a little history for each. Brendan and I are getting our very first Christmas tree this year (in the past, with apartments and roommates we’ve settled for the family tree back home), so we’ll probably purchase a few special ornaments. And I’m sure one day we’ll be telling stories about the ornaments we bought for our first Christmas together! These are all vintage or handmade ornaments, mostly found on Etsy. Of course, there are many more ornaments in the stores where I found these, so be sure to follow the links!

December 2, 2009 at 11:10 amEllie, have you ever seen a book of vintage handmade ornaments? My grandma had a bunch that she made back in the fifties, but I’m having a hard time tracking down this sort of craft book. I’d love to make some of them as gifts to send along to friends and put on my own tree. Any ideas?

I hope you’ll document yours and Brendan’s first tree and share. I’m sure it will be very creative, knowing you two.
