carlisle train station

February 19th, 2010 · 11 Comments

The UK ad agency Mindshare has been working hard on the Carlisle train station in preparation for a TV ad for Homebase. The bright paint colors and trendy furniture have attracted a huge facebook fanbase, who hopes the installation won’t be removed after filming.

As of right now, the facebook page has over 5,000 fans! Although I’m not sure I would be so brave in my own home, Homebase hopes to inspire people to get more creative with their DIY home projects. My personal favorite is the abstract painting on the floor:

The ad is expected to go live in the UK this spring and summer, and this afternoon Mindshare will release some behind the scenes footage.

  1. This is totally incredible! I adore the wall in the last image! All of the hard work that must have went into this, it would be a shame to see it just taken down. Not to mention there is no way you wouldn’t be put in an instant good mood walking through here.

  2. wow, those colors are mesmerizing!

  3. oh WOW! i hope they won’t take it down!

  4. Wow! I wouldn’t mind waiting for a train in that station.

  5. I love the stripy stairs!

  6. that is so cool. it reminds me of the photos that were circulating a while ago of the NYC subways during the 70s when they were painted in colorful stripes.

  7. all train stations should be so inspiring!

I live in Newcastle so not too far away i may just have to go and pay a visit.

  10. Ellie, this is amazing!!! I am an American writer, teacher, mom living in Carlisle with my family. A friend in LA sent me your link. My son, a true Pasadena-born 9-year-old artist, says this is “mint.” Well done, girl. Wish I could have met you!

  11. Sorry, Ellie. I am slow. It looks like you didn’t work on this but still. Good taste. I am excited to check out your stationery. It makes me laugh that it takes two people from the States to tell me about a renovation happening walking distance from my house!
