links for your weekend

February 19th, 2010 · 5 Comments

+ On Valentine’s Day, my husband and I found a new (old) dining room table. Rather, it found us… we certainly weren’t intending to buy any furniture. But sometimes a deal’s just too good to pass up!

+ Congratulations to Courtney on the pre-launch of Seamless Paperie, a wedding & events stationery shop. It’s going to be great!

+ LOCALS: It’s third Friday in Durham! Lotsa art. The Dynamite Brothers are playing at the Pinhook Saturday night. They’re good. The NC Comedy Arts Festival continues this weekend, and it’s the last weekend to see Warhol’s polaroids. If you’d like to have a booth at Raleigh’s Handmade Market, apply by Feb.26.

+ this is the last weekend to enter the 2010 Reader Survey & giveaway! I would love to give some customized calling cards to you or a friend, and would love to hear what you like/what needs improvement on Mint! Margot & I would also love to hear your thoughts/opinions on our Howdy Do It series, so if you would please take our Howdy Do It survey. So far we have a pretty low number of responses on that one, and we really want your input! Thanks to those of you who have already done these things!

+ In the reader survey, some of you mentioned an interest in what books I’m reading. I’ve added a section to the left sidebar, which will switch out whenever I start a new book. I love to read and would love to hear your comments and suggestions. Just click on the book image in the sidebar to get to the “currently reading” page.

+ My favorite kind of fashion inspiration is the kind that doesn’t inspire me to buy new clothing necessarily, but to rethink what I’ve already got. So I’m feeling very inspired after these great posts by Happy Cavalier and Darling Dexter.

Have a great weekend!

carlisle train station

February 19th, 2010 · 11 Comments

The UK ad agency Mindshare has been working hard on the Carlisle train station in preparation for a TV ad for Homebase. The bright paint colors and trendy furniture have attracted a huge facebook fanbase, who hopes the installation won’t be removed after filming.

POST 27

February 18th, 2010 · 4 Comments

Congratulations to POST 27 on their beautiful new website, designed by Pitch Design Union! POST 27 is a wonderful shop full of handmade and vintage items, founded by husband and wife team Angela Finney-Hoffman and Barkley Hoffman.

P.S. Maybe Margot will kill me for posting the site, since she’s still working on a few Internet Explorer bugs (who isn’t!). You’ll see it perfectly in Firefox & Chrome.

silke schoener

February 18th, 2010 · 4 Comments

Landscapes by German artist Silke Schoener. From her site:

The landscape cutouts are surrounded by white. An undefined space. The white is an emptiness that is filled with whatever the viewer perceives. Even if the imagination conjures up sky, water or ground, the conveying medium (the whiteness) remains constant as a basic perception that is rooted in the immaterial and superposes the intellectual cognizance. This uncertainty triggers the search for a new orientation. Some viewers find it in the material reality through pictorial or conceptual association, whilst others find it by abandoning their experienced reality and entering a new, illusionary world.”
