NSS recap: ilee
The ilee booth was completely filled with beautiful silkscreened and letterpressed invitations & cards. Some of my favorites were the 2011 calendar previews.

The Great Lakes is another fun company I hadn’t heard of before the show. Designer Rose Lazar is “influenced by Fleetwood Mac, Charley Harper, Rob Ryan, Louise Bourgeois, 50 cent, The Shakers, campfires, Simon and Garfunkel, Tina Fey, massive amounts of candy, nature and nurture (equally), Ms. Josephine, sweet romance and good ole fashioned nostalgia.” All her work is hand drawn, and you can find lots more in her shop.
Deborah Bowness‘ wallpaper collection is so much fun! Above, my photo of her booth and below some shots found on her website:
Sadly, I missed meeting Ink and Wit designer Tara Hogan, but her booth was just as lovely as I expected it would be. I loved all the wood on the walls, and her brand new rubber stamp set (available to purchase soon).
Most of the work I liked at NSS was from designers I already knew, so it was a really nice surprise to meet Gold Teeth Brooklyn. Their work was one of my favorites, partly because I love their simple, bold designs but I also love that they’re screenprinters—kind of a break from the booths (and booths!) of letterpress printers. While I was snapping photos, two other people stopped in to comment on the fact that they weren’t letterpress. Not that I don’t love letterpress (how could you not?), but I’m just saying… Gold Teeth stood out in a good way.
Amaridian is a gallery in New York who represents a large number of contemporary African artists and designers. Above are my photos from the booth (telephone wire sculptures by Zenzulu, knobs on furniture by Egg Designs, and lighting by Willowlamp). Below are some hand-dyed and woven textiles from Malian designer Aboubakar Fofana (photo from the Amaridian site).
