+ I love seesaw’s letterpressed 2011 calendar (pictured above)

+ this bear wallpaper would be so cute in a kid’s nook/bathroom!

+ beautiful handkerchief save the date via seesaw

+ I love these Halloween-themed chocolate bar wrappers (download!) on Twig & Thistle

+ Etsian VisuaLingual has made it big with their seed bombs (picked up by Anthropologie!), and right now their Fall varieties—Dog & Cat Friendly and Herbs—are being made by a team of teen apprentices through their partnership with ArtWorks, a Cincinnati-based arts nonprofit that employs area teens for a variety of creative projects, including murals, theatrical set design, and now seed bombs.

+ LOCAL STUFF: It’s Third Friday in Durham! Go see my friends Rachel Freeman & Liz Vitale at 105 West Main St. // The weather is perfect for outdoor movies these days, and Durham Cinematheque presents Three Times Outside tonight // Flanders Gallery presents Dive tonight, a documentary that follows a group of people who sustain themselves on dumpster diving. Did you know our society wastes 1/2 of what we produce? // Mandolin Orange plays Saturday night at Local 506 //  Vampire Weekend and Beach House play on Sunday night in Raleigh, and it’s not sold out!! // The NC State Fair opens tonight! People watching, fried foods, and rickety rides, what more could you want?! Get your freak on. (that’s the tagline Brendan tried to sell them on, but they didn’t bite. weird).

sponsor introduction: sweet haven homestead

October 14th, 2010 · No Comments

Sweet Haven Homestead is the newest project from two of my favorite NC-based creatives, Wolfie & the Sneak! And, I’m happy to announce that they are one of Mint’s newest sponsors. Sweet Haven Homestead is a collection of handcrafted goods, inspired by Renee and Charlie’s grandparents and their legacy of “living slowly, passionately, and respectfully.” They have generously offered to give Mint readers 20% off! Just enter “minty” at checkout.

Thanks Sweet Haven! Sponsors help make Mint possible, and I am so grateful for their support. If you’re interested in advertising on Mint, please get in touch by emailing mintdesignblog at gmail dot com, and I’ll be happy to give you all the details.

kitchen ideas

We met with a contractor this morning to talk about our kitchen remodel, and these are the inspiration photos I brought along. Just keep your fingers crossed that there are hardwoods under all the layers of vinyl…

this week’s recipe: butternut squash and bacon risotto

October 12th, 2010 · 20 Comments

My husband and I have offered to host Thanksgiving this year for our moms, uncles, my grandfather, and our siblings. Nevermind that we will have moved into our new house less than one month prior, and will start (and complete!) a kitchen renovation between now and then. And have never (successfully) cooked a turkey. Yeah. It’s cool, don’t worry about it.

This butternut squash and bacon risotto will have to be on the menu, assuming we have a stove with which to make it! For the full recipe and more photos, visit Guilty Kitchen.
