We have lots of ideas for our first New Home Project. To name a few: build a fence for our dog, tear out the concrete which covers 95% of the back “yard,” overhaul the kitchen, paint lots of wood paneling, replace the front door, paint the exterior trim, re-tile the bathroom floor, rip out some carpet, plant grass… get the picture? Really, it’s a great house and we’re just a little overly enthusiastic about all the things we could do to our house if money were no object.

One thing I swear I didn’t mean to tackle right away (it wasn’t even on the top 10 list!) was the dining room, which is painted three different shades of white. Three! And then all of a sudden, I found myself in line at Home Depot with a sample can of grey paint. And then the next day, with a new sample. And then the next day… well, who knew paint could be so tricky!

I’m so happy for you ellie! this will be a fabulous project! I’m still in the middle of trying to revamp my home studio – updating an entire home will be challenging and fun! congrats to you both!

I think we’re living the same life right now…literally. I’m sitting my half-painted living room, prepping the old wood around the windows and doorways for a fresh paint and then the walls will be gray! I have my color samples sitting next to me :)

We love the color gray we painted our house inside.
It’s Sherwin williams “Twilight” i think! It’s great.

Gray is super tricky! We have it in our master. Ended up with Behr’s Ashes, and it looks amazing. It’s darker though, so it will depend on what shade of gray you’re after. Sounds nice with the grey color! We are working on our basement at the moment….. A LOT of work, and we’ve hardly started, ha ha. Now I’m looking at pretty pictures to get away from the mess… Nice blog! :)

I’ve painted my kitchen, hallways, and a bedroom gray. Love the color – all from Sherwin Williams “serious gray” and “morning fog”. There are some pictures here on my site -

a great gray that we found is benjamin moore’s edgecomb gray, though it looks like you’ve got your eye on a few beautiful shades already! if you need any tips on planting grass, let me know!

hi ellie, congrats on the new home! we also just bought our first home and I went paint crazy at home depot too. I picked out two shades of gray – one for the living room and my office. I chose behr’s natural gray for the living room and behr’s burnished clay for my office. It’s a nice cool neutral. Good luck with everything!
