woven oak

July 11th, 2011 · 2 Comments

Lizzie and Leo of Woven Oak were visiting small rural villages in Rajasthan, India, when they discovered block-printed textiles and were inspired to combine the ancient craft of woodblock printing with contemporary textile design. All Woven Oak designs are hand drawn before being carved into Sheesham wood. The blocks are then dipped in trays of dye before being stamped by hand on to fabric. A few of my favorites are above and below, and you can find lots more, including journals, tea towels, and fabric by the yard in their shop.

  1. I’m pretty obsessed with block printing, so thank you for this link. Just last week I put a bunch of it on my blog, too!
