In my next life I’m going to take the millions of fabric scraps I hoard and turn them into little “goodlucks” like Hillery! Hillery Rebeka Sproattis an enormously talented artist who studied printmaking and book arts and the Maryland Institute College of Art, and now resides in Baltimore. In addition to her portfolio, you can see her handmade clothing, embroidered objects and more in her shop Specks & Keepings.

this week’s recipe: arancini with a red wine mushroom sauce

August 16th, 2011 · 3 Comments

Last weekend Brendan and I treated ourselves to dinner at Revolution in Durham, which is truly one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. Their new Arancini dish was so good that I told Brendan if I ever got put on death row this would have to be my last meal. OK, bad joke, I know.

Of course I don’t have the Revolution recipe, but I did find a good arancini recipe—that’s fried risotto balls, btw (photo above)—from Chef Madness. (As a side note on the arancini recipe, ours did not include the olives.) I also found a good red wine mushroom gravy recipe from Fresh365 (photo below).

Of course, if you’re local, I say skip the kitchen altogether and head down to Revolution, quick, before they switch up the menu again!

links for your weekend

August 12th, 2011 · 3 Comments

Last week my new employee started… and oh my gosh having an employee is amazing. Besides all the research and design help Katelyn’s been providing, she’s also a blog whiz (check out her own right here). A big thanks to Katelyn for helping me get my regular Mint features back, which have gone by the wayside during wedding season craziness. You remember “links for your weekend?” Here goes…

ksenia’s tea party invitations

August 10th, 2011 · 6 Comments

Ksenia is a graphic designer and artist with Russian roots, and when she and Todd got engaged one of her first thoughts was painted wedding invitations (which you can see on her blog). But she didn’t stop there — Before their wedding, Ksenia had a Ladies Tea Lunch at the Tea Room in Savannah, Georgia, and created another beautiful hand-painted and hand-cut invitation.

The only printed element was a vellum tag with party details, tied with ribbon to the top of the tea cup. Ksenia says she was inspired by the charm of Savannah, and the vintage feel of the Tea Room.

Ksenia and Todd were married on the same day as Will and Kate, so a local news agency ran this sweet article about their wedding.
