In the Kitchen: Homemade Hot Chocolate

On Christmas Eve growing up, we’d all pile into the car to look at Christmas lights. It was a ritual. Wrapped in blankets with Christmas music blaring, there was only one thing missing—a mug of homemade hot chocolate. I’ll be ready this year. With homemade marshmallows in tow. I just need to find a car that’s big enough to fit my growing family.

Homemade Hot Chocolate
serves 3-4

1/2 c. sugar
1/3 c. high quality unsweetened cocoa powder
1/8 tsp. sea salt
dash of cinnamon
4 1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

1. In a small saucepan, whisk together sugar, cocoa powder, sea salt, and cinnamon.
2. Add in milk and vanilla. Turn on heat to medium-high.
3. Whisk continually until well combined. Heat until warm, about 10 minutes.
4. Serve and top with marshmallows or whipped cream. Garnish with peppermint bits, chocolate, or cinnamon.
