the lost things

March 1st, 2010 · 9 Comments

Yesterday Angela Kohler sent over this beautiful stop motion film she and her boyfriend, Ithyle Griffiths, just made with their friend Alison Sudol of A Fine Frenzy. Alison wrote the song especially for the film.

An outtake:

And more photos of Alison by Angela:

Angela, Ithyle, and Alison are all very talented so check out their sites for more great stuff!

no domain

July 21st, 2009 · 3 Comments

I’m going to go on an tangent here, but bear with me… Brendan and I saw a Super Furry Animals show a few years back, and we’ve been talking about it ever since. The music, the costumes, the crazy animation display behind the band

It came up in conversation last weekend because I suggested that my husband do some visuals for one of our musician friends. Anyway, it’s ironic because today in a logo book I came across No Domain, who is a motion design firm who… makes those crazy beautiful visuals behind a band or DJ.

It’s all coming together.

And they have some cool print work, too:

bombadil’s tarpits & canyonlands {illustration}

July 8th, 2009 · 9 Comments

Durham, NC based band Bombadil has a new record, called Tarpits and Canyonlands. These beautiful illustrations were made for Bombadil by IdiotsBooks (one illustration for each song on the album).

If you live in the triangle area of NC, it gets better… Bombadil will be celebrating the disc’s release at Golden Belt on July 11. There will be ping pong, snacks, music (by The Tender Fruit, Luego, & the improvisational marching band, the Scene of the Crime Rovers) and limited edition prints of the illustrations will be sold for $25-50.

You can purchase Tarpits & Canyonlands here.

the orba squara website

July 3rd, 2009 · 14 Comments

The other night my husband, Brendan, found the Orba Squara website via Ventilate and we spent forever scrolling through it. It’s a visual diary of the band’s ten day tour, with journal entries, lyrics, great typography and fantastic imagery. Basically, it looks like it was a ton of work and the end product is my favorite website ever.

Yeah.

(And as I’m pulling this post together, my husband points out that’s he’s already blogged this over at OK Great. Oh, the problems of having two bloggers under one roof… screw it, this one’s too good not to share again.)

Have a happy 4th!

christina vantzou (& sparklehorse)

Christina Vantzou makes some cool drawings (right) and some really cool animation. The music video on the left is for her boyfriend’s band Sparklehorse and the music is as lovely as the video. And then there’s the cool animated intro page on her website….and the fact that Sparklehorse is from my home state of NC. Holla!
