west elm and shane powers

December 19th, 2011 · 3 Comments

I love those vertical plant walls and have been looking for a way to bring something like that indoors (without needing to hire someone’s green thumb to keep it pretty). Along the same lines, West Elm and Shane Powers will launch this collection of ceramic wall planters the first week of January, and I can’t wait. They’ll range in price from $19-$69, and it will be hard not to buy a few for each room!

I’m dying to get a couple hanging planters, one for our dining room and one for our bedroom. Some favorites:

Top: Faceted Planter from Pigeon Toe Ceramics (currently sold out) / Scribble Hanging Planter from Pigeon Toe Ceramics
Bottom: Perch! Plant Orb / Carmin Hanging Planter from Lori Koop / Outdoor Hanging Planter / Air Plant Pod from Mudpuppy

mystery flowers

I’m on a mission! My friend Jessie Gladin-Kramer brought me these beautiful flowers for my birthday. They’re growing in her wild backyard, and the more pruning she does, the more she has in the spring. They have multiple blooms on each stem… and no one knows what they are! Maybe you do? I’d love to plant some!

I love the bright whites in this restaurant, combined with the warm wood and terrarium light boxes. Designed by Y.A. Studio with Kelly Lynn Waters.

From Kelly’s site:

“A beloved fixture in Hayes Valley lost their lease along with their prized outdoor garden. Their move next door placed them in a dark pancaked concrete shell. With a wink to their previous space the concept was to create a garden setting in a space with limited to no light, through various means, of color, live terrariums, and materiality.”

I love summer. Lately, our house has been full of roses, mint and thyme sprigs, and other clippings from the yard. There was a point a few years ago, when I was like a plant thief… anytime I saw a plant I liked, I’d take a piece and try to root it at home. Most didn’t really turn out. Renee to the rescue! Renee from Wolfie and the Sneak does a weekly gardening post on Modish, and last week it was all about how to root plants. (Asprin, who knew?) Erin of Reading My Tea Leaves recently posted this great idea (above) for simple DIY hanging wall vases, and I’m determined to combine the two.
