I can’t wait to see $9.99, a stop animation film that will be in theaters June 19. Stop animation is fascinating to me, from a visual perspective but also because I’m amazed that anyone has the patience. According to the $9.99 website, it took each animator a full day of work to create 4-5 seconds of the film.

Jan-Erik Maas, an animator for $9.99 explains, “If I make a mistake I can never go back to exactly the same position because there are basically an indefinite amount of movements. So when you create a movement, you commit to it, then you carry on. This is what makes stop motion so special of all the animation techniques. It gives us this special energy because it’s a live performance.” -$9.99 website

$9.99 is based on the short stories of Etgar Keret and follows Dave Peck as he struggles to find the meaning of life and runs into many interesting characters along the way.
