Now, normally when I think of Cinco de Mayo, I don’t think sit-down meal, right? I mean, barbecue or potluck sounds more like it. However, I couldn’t stop myself from making these fringy place cards. So, even if you don’t make them for next week, think of how cute they could be for a baby shower with say, light pink, bright pink and white tissue paper, or an engagement party using the colors of the wedding. A few minutes of snipping and a few minutes of glueing, and you’re done!

My mom taught me this little trick – whenever you see a good, cheap vase or container, pick it up (Would you believe that vase with the orange handle was just $2.00 at a stoop sale?). Then save it for when you go to a party or a friend’s house. Instead of bringing a bouquet of flowers that they have to unwrap, trim and find a vase for (all while smiling and hosting and dealing with other things), you show up with your flowers ready to plonk down on the table or counter. Who wouldn’t love that?
Of course, the trick is not getting too attached to any of the vases you find!
Spring is here – finally! And can I tell you a secret? The flowers on my dining room table are not all real. The yellow forsythia – totally fake. A few years ago, I never would’ve used them, but I’ve mixed them in with some real daffodils and blossoms from our backyard. I think the trick is to use a flower that’s currently in season, then no one will ever suspect a thing.
What do you think? Could you tell?!
I’m always a little confused when a new baby comes along. Are you supposed to bring a gift when you see them? Usually, you’ve already given a big gift at the baby shower. But I never want to show up empty-handed. My friend Amanda recently brought her beautiful baby boy home from the hospital. I brought over a chicken pot-pie, ready to bake, for the new parents to have for dinner, with a fresh green salad and some cookies for dessert.
I figured they didn’t have anything ‘personalized’ for the baby yet (the name had been a secret), so I made these little personalized baby notecards – simply stamped baby’s first initial on a notecard and added some matching envelopes.
A small and cute gift for a small and cute baby. Welcome to the world, baby Wyatt!
Have a party coming up and need fast, simple and cheap decorations? Have a stapler, scissors and some paper? Make some paper chains! I recently co-hosted a baby shower and we hung them everywhere. They’re such a mindless project, too – I really enjoyed making them while bingeing on House of Cards – have you seen it? We couldn’t stop watching it and tore threw all 10 episodes. I highly recommend it!
