DIY: cork placecards
Remember these pretty DIY placecards that Cara and I made (with the pretty photo by Laura Kay)? Cara is here today to share her tutorial so that you can make your own for your next event, and I’ve supplemented her instructions with some photos.
To read the full tutorial after the jump, click:
Here’s what you need:
1. Use the exacto knife to cut a slit through the cork while cork is horizontal. (Note from Ellie: I ended up making more of a wedge cut).
3. Place penny/button on dab of glue and hold for at least 10 seconds to ensure sturdiness. Allow to dry for about 10 minutes before moving on to next step.
5. Insert place card in slit of cork as soon as step 4 has been completed.
Thanks Cara! This is a quick & easy project for your wedding or any event (Thanksgiving, anybody?).

I really want to make these for Thanksgiving dinner. I am not a wine drinker, do you know where I can get a bunch of corks?

I’d check with local restaurants/bars! I’m sure they’d be willing to save a night’s corks for you.

To buy some wine corks I would also check local arts and crafts stores.

I love this idea. I’ve also done it where i just cut the cork in half length-wise so it will sit flat, then cut a slit at the top of the rounded part. Works equally well :)

What a fabulous idea. Also a great excuse to drink lots of wine. Although most of the wine I have these days has either a screw top or a synthetic cork. Although maybe that’s just me.

In your top photo it shows the name Nick Read. That is exactly my son-in-law’s name (yes, same spelling even). That was really crazy to see! And my daughter’s name is only two letters different than the other name you have listed. Wow. However, that is a super cute idea for the card holder!
