Skill Level

  • Beginner: Basic stitches with simple shaped construction make this suitable for anyone familiar with foundation stitches and working in rounds.

Materials

  • Yarn:
    • Bernat Cozy Style (4-ply medium-weight yarn).
    • Approximately 700–800 yards for a full-sized shawl (depending on desired size).
    • Substitute with any medium-weight yarn if Bernat Cozy Style is unavailable.
  • Hook Size: 5 mm crochet hook (recommended for yarn).
  • Optional Tools:
    • Yarn needle (for weaving in ends).
    • Scissors.

Gauge

Gauge is not critical for this pattern since it works up into a shawl of adjustable size. However, approximate gauge is:

  • 4 inches = 14 double crochets

Finished Size

  • Depth: Approximately 32 inches (top center to bottom point).
  • Width: Approximately 64 inches (side to side).
The size can be adjusted by continuing to repeat the 4-row sequence.

Special Techniques

  1. Popcorn (Front Post Puff Stitch):
Yarn over, insert hook under the identified stitch (front post method), yarn over and pull up a loop. Repeat 3 times for a total of 7 loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through 6 loops, then yarn over and pull through the last 2 loops.

  2. Pom-Pom Stitch:
Combines puff-like clusters to create textured edging. These are worked separately and attached via slip stitches.
