Crochet Little Rose Pattern

Materials Needed:

  • Yarn of your choice (cotton or acrylic recommended)
  • Suitable crochet hook for your yarn
  • Yarn needle or tapestry needle for sewing
  • Scissors

Special Features:

  • Easy and quick to crochet
  • Beautiful curled rose shape by rolling the crocheted strip
  • Works well as an applique on bags, hats, clothing, or gift wraps
  • Beginner-friendly with basic stitches and clear shaping
  • Durable, firm hold once sewn properly

Difficulty Level:

Beginner – The pattern involves chaining, double crochet stitches, and simple sewing techniques.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Begin Chain Foundation

  • Make a slip knot.
  • Chain 40 stitches (ch 40).

Step 2: First Row – Double Crochet Groups

  • Chain 2 (counts as first double crochet (dc)).
  • Starting from the 3rd chain from hook, make 2 double crochet (dc) stitches into the same stitch.
  • Skip the next chain.
  • Repeat across the row: 2 dc, skip 1 chain, until the end.
  • You should have pairs of double crochets (dc) separated by skipped chains.

Step 3: Second Row – Building Petals

  • Turn your work.
  • Find the middle space between two double crochet (dc) pairs below.
  • Insert your hook into this space and make a slip stitch (sl st).
  • Chain 2 (ch 2).
  • Make 2 double crochet (dc) stitches into the same space.
  • Chain 3 (ch 3) (this forms spacing for petals).
  • Repeat across the row: 2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc in each space between pairs of double crochet (dc) below.
  • The strip will start curling and petals will form.

Step 4: Third and Following Rows

  • Turn your work.
  • Repeat the sequence of 2 double crochet (dc), chain 3 (ch 3), 2 double crochet (dc) into each chain-3 space from the previous row.
  • Continue working these rows until the strip naturally curls and petals form.

Step 5: Finishing the Strip

  • Fasten off and cut the yarn with a tail for sewing.
  • Weave in ends with a tapestry needle.

Step 6: Rolling and Sewing the Rose

  • Locate the original foundation chain edge.
  • Starting from one end, roll the crocheted strip tightly along the chain edge to curl into a rose.
  • Use a yarn needle and yarn tail to sew through the chain edge spaces, securing the rose as you roll so it won’t unravel.
  • Sew evenly along the chain-edge "base" to hold the petals firmly.
  • Tie off and hide yarn tails within the flower.

Tutor’s Suggestions:

  • Use smooth, medium weight yarn and an appropriate hook for consistent stitches.
  • Yarn thickness and hook size affect the rose size and curl tightness.
  • Adjust chain length and number of rows for different rose sizes.

Uses:

  • Appliques on bags, hats, scarves, or sweaters
  • Decorative brooches or hair accessories
  • Home décor like cushions or blankets
  • Gift wrapping embellishment

Tip:

When sewing the rose, sew gently without pulling too tight to keep the petals’ natural shape intact.

Conclusion:
The double crochet (dc) petal rows and rolling technique create this charming, secure little rose that’s easy and fun to make. It’s an ideal small project for beginners or anyone who loves crochet flowers!
