Special Features

  • Customizable Designs:
You can adjust the base size and height of the cozy to fit any candle or jar.

  • Two Distinct Patterns:
This tutorial offers two unique crochet stitch patterns to create variety in design.

  • Multipurpose Use:
Use crochet cozies for candles, jars, or decorative items. They also make great gifts for fairs and festivals.

Level of Difficulty

This project is beginner-friendly, with easy-to-master stitches like the magic circle, double crochet, and chain stitches. If you're new to working with cotton threads or fine hooks, this will still be manageable with some practice.

Tutor's Suggestions

  1. Check the Fit as You Go:
Continuously check your base and pattern against the candle’s dimensions to ensure a snug fit.

  2. Customize the Length:
You can make the cozy cover the full candle jar or leave some of the candle color showing for a decorative effect.

  3. Embellish the Finished Product:
Consider adding beads, sparkles, or other decorative items for added flair, especially for fairs or as gifts.

Pattern 1: Pink Candle Cozy (Sandalwood Candle)

Step 1: Create the Base

  1. Start with a magic circle.

  2. Chain 2 and make 10 double crochets (DC) into the magic circle.

    • Close the magic circle by pulling the loop tight.
    • Slip stitch into the first DC to close the round.
  3. Round 2:

    • Chain 2 (does not count as a stitch).
    • Make 2 DCs into each stitch around (increase in every stitch).
    • Total: 20 stitches.
    • End with a slip stitch into the first DC.
  4. Round 3:

    • Chain 2.
    • Make 1 DC in the first stitch, 2 DC in the next stitch. Repeat this pattern all around.
    • Total: 30 stitches.
    • End with a slip stitch into the first DC.
  5. Check the base against your candle. Add or subtract rounds to match the candle bottom’s diameter.

Step 2: Main Pattern for the Body

  1. Foundation Round:

    • Chain 5 (counts as a DC + chain-2).
    • In the same stitch, make a DC.
    • Chain 3, skip 4 stitches, and in the next stitch, make (DC, chain-2, DC). Repeat this pattern all around.
    • End with a slip stitch into the third chain of the starting chain-5.
  2. Pattern Round 1 (Lattice Design):

    • Slip stitch into the chain-2 space. Chain 3.
    • In the same chain-2 space, make 4 more DC.
    • Move to the next chain-2 space and make 5 DCs.
    • Repeat this pattern in every chain-2 space all around.
    • End with a slip stitch into the third chain of the starting chain-3.
  3. Pattern Round 2:

    • Slip stitch into the second DC of the 5-DC group (the middle stitch).
    • Chain 5 (counts as DC + chain-2), and make another DC in the same middle stitch.
    • Chain 3. Move to the middle DC of the next 5-DC group. Make (DC, chain-2, DC).
    • Repeat this pattern all around.
    • End with a slip stitch in the third chain of the starting chain-5.
  4. Repeat Pattern Round 1 and Pattern Round 2 until your desired height is achieved.

  5. Fasten off, weave in the ends, and embellish if desired.

Pattern 2: Yellow Candle Cozy (Rose Candle)

Step 1: Create the Base

Follow the same steps as the pink candle cozy base:

  1. Magic circle.
  2. Chain 2, make 10 DCs in the magic circle, close with a slip stitch.
  3. Increase each round as necessary to fit the candle base (10, 20, 30 stitches, etc.).

Step 2: Main Pattern for the Body

  1. Foundation Round:

    • Chain 3 (counts as DC). In the same stitch, make 2 DCs. Chain 4.
    • Skip 5 stitches, make 3 DCs in the next stitch, chain 4. Repeat this pattern all around.
    • End with a slip stitch in the top of the starting chain-3.
  2. Pattern Round 1:

    • Slip stitch into the next DC and into the chain-4 space. Chain 3 (counts as DC), make 2 more DCs in the same chain-4 space.
    • Chain 2. Make 3 DCs in the same chain-4 space (3 DC, chain-2, 3 DC in the same space).
    • Move to the next chain-4 space and repeat (3 DC, chain-2, 3 DC).
    • Repeat this pattern all around. End with a slip stitch in the top of the starting chain-3.
  3. Pattern Round 2:

    • Slip stitch into the next DC and into the chain-2 space. Chain 3 (counts as DC), make 2 more DCs in the chain-2 space.
    • Chain 4. Move to the next chain-2 space and make 3 DCs.
    • Repeat this pattern all around. End with a slip stitch in the top of the chain-3.
  4. Repeat Pattern Round 1 and Pattern Round 2 until the desired height is achieved.

  5. Fasten off, weave in ends, and embellish as desired.

Conclusion

Your crochet candle cozies in two elegant patterns are now complete! These customizable cozies enhance the beauty of scented candles, making them perfect for home decor, gifting, or exhibition pieces. You can personalize the design further by trying different color combinations, adding beads, or using metallic threads for a festive touch.

Bonus Tip

Use a tea light candle inside the jar instead of lighting the candle directly to preserve your crochet cozy longer. It’s a practical way to enjoy the look and scent without worrying about damaging your beautiful work.
