Notes

• Work into the back bumps for the first row for a neater foundation.
• Ch 1 at the start of each row does not count as a stitch.
• The last stitch of every row (both ends) is worked through both loops for crisp, straight edges.

Assembly & Shaping

Assembly

Side Seam:

• Cut yarn leaving a tail at least three times the width of your pumpkin.
• Fold the rectangle so short edges meet, right sides facing in.
• Using the tail and yarn needle, whipstitch across to join the ends and form a tube.
• Tie a knot at the seam to secure.

Gather Base:

• Keeping right side in, with same tail, work a running stitch along one open edge (pick up one edge from every row).
• Pull yarn to cinch closed.
• Tie a knot.

Turn Right Side Out.

Stuffing and Closing:

• Stuff firmly with polyfill but don’t overstretch the stitches.
• With new tail (or same if long enough), run a stitch around open top edge, picking up an edge of every row.
• Pull tight to cinch closed.
• Tie a knot.

Indent for Pumpkin Shape:

• Pass the needle with tail through the center from top to bottom.
• Pull gently to indent.
• Tie securely at the base and bury tail.

Pumpkin Stems

Small Pumpkin

• With tan/brown yarn, ch 5.
• Work 1 sc in the back bump of each ch (4 sc).
• Row 2–3:
  • Ch 1, turn; sc 4.
• Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
• Fold stem, whipstitch long side to make a tube.
• Attach to pumpkin: Thread tail through tube, then through center of pumpkin. Knot and bury ends.

Medium Pumpkin (& Optional Vine)

• Leave a 10" tail.
• Stem:
  • Ch 9.
  • Sc in back bump of 2nd ch and each ch across (8 sc).
  • Rows 2–7: Ch 1, turn, sc 8.
• Vine:
  • Ch 9.
  • Sc in back bump of 2nd ch and each ch across (8 sc).
  • Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc 8.
• Fasten off.
• Sew vine to inside of stem "tube."
• Fold and seam to form a tube, then attach to pumpkin center as for small pumpkin.
• Knot securely inside, bury tails.

Large Pumpkin

• With tan yarn and long tail, ch 17.
• Starting in 4th ch from hook (3 skipped ch count as first dc), dc in each ch back bump (14 dc).
• Row 2:
  • Ch 2, turn (counts as hdc). Front post dc in next st, hdc in next st, repeat to end.
• Row 3:
  • Ch 2, turn (counts as hdc). Back post dc in next st, hdc in next st, repeat to end.
• Repeat Rows 2–3 until you have 6 total rows.
• Vine:
  • From corner, ch 9.
  • Sc in back bump of 2nd ch and each down (8 sc).
  • Continue for 15 sc rows for a long vine.
• Fasten off.
• Fold into a tube and seam.
• Thread all tails through base of stem, then through pumpkin center and out bottom.
• Pull gently to indent top, knot securely. Bury or trim tails.
