beverly & neil

When Beverly emailed me a couple months ago with engagement photos and a great wedding website, I knew the photos from her wedding day would be just as beautiful. Beverly is a graphic designer and her husband is an architect, so it makes sense that detail was important to them. Her friend Sarah Kindelan Crawford served as wedding coordinator and stylist, helping to create a beautiful day… despite the pouring rain!

Beverly and Neil were married this past May at Sloss Furnaces in Birmingham, AL. They wanted their wedding to be thoughtful, simple, and handmade, so they started by stamping Save the Dates and sewing letterpressed invitations. Their photographer, Bob Miller, took holgas, beautiful black and whites, as well as an 8mm video in keeping with their vintage, homemade vibe.

Beverly’s friend and wedding coordinator Sarah made pinwheels from found paper for the guest favors, and cake toppers from book pages & spools of thread. All the decorations were made from re-purposed materials, so they hardly spent a dime on decorations. The idea of re-purposing carried over into the floral decorations as well. Their florist, Hot House Design in Birmingham used collected containers, old buttons and handkerchiefs, and handmade fabric pendant flags to decorate. All the floral arrangements used seasonal flowers and herbs.

With every wedding there is a hitch, and Beverly and Neil’s was the weather. They had an outdoor event planned — They were going to dance under the Sloss watertower and imagined guests walking down the wooden tracks beneath that are a part of the iron factory. Instead, it absolutely poured on their wedding day!

Beverly, Neil, and their family and friends pulled it together to create a memorable day despite the rain. They were able to move inside, to a space normally reserved for concerts.

Afterward, guests waved goodbye with sparklers and they left in a yellow cab!

Congratulations Beverly & Neil, and thanks for sharing your wedding with us! You can see more photos here and see the 8mm video their photographer created for them here.
